To work at a federal election you must be an Australian Citizen and politically neutral.

Being politically neutral means not expressing an opinion or taking actions in relation to political parties, political candidates and their policies.

For most jobs you need to be at least 18 years of age.

Eligible people under 18 years of age may be able to work before and after voting day. You cannot work on voting day as you must be 18 or older to work with ballot papers.

As a member of our temporary election workforce, you must:

• adhere to the AEC Values and Commitments (we encourage you to read these before polling day)
• comply with the procedures and policies outlined in your training
• avoid any conflict of interest (real or apparent)
• not be seen to be publicly active in political affairs or publicly engage in these activities
• be familiar with, abide by and promote AEC work health and safety frameworks, policies and procedures
• demonstrate personal integrity and represent the AEC with professionalism
• engage respectfully with diverse individuals and communities
• be flexible, adaptable and work as part of a team
• take ownership and responsibility for own work
• handle ballot papers safely and securely throughout all electoral processes.
