Ahead of Monday’s enrolment deadline, the AEC can confirm that this election will have the most complete electoral roll for any Australian federal election ever.
Around 18 million people are enrolled, which is approximately 98% of all eligible Australians. The highest ever.
In the six days since the election was announced there has been around 200,000 enrolment transactions submitted - new enrolments and people updating their details.
The Australian Electoral Commission has a simple message for any Australians who need to enrol or update their details: Time is running out!
Enrolling to vote takes less than five minutes and can be done online. For the first time at a federal election, voters can now enrol using a Medicare card as proof of identity – increasing further the accessibility to enrol for younger Australians.
Once the enrolment deadline has passed, you will not be able to enrol or update your enrolment details in time for the 2025 federal election.
Voters can check their enrolment information, update their details or enrol for the first time on the AEC’s website: aec.gov.au
“There’s no time to lose – Australians have until 8pm this coming Monday to enrol or update their enrolment details.”
“This federal election will have a record high level of enrolment. It is just a question of how high it gets. The roll will comprise around 98% of those eligible – something largely unheard of around the world.”
“If you track back to 2010 enrolment was sitting at around 90% - we’ve worked incredibly hard to further build the base for democratic participation in Australia and it’s come a very long way.
“In the final days before the deadline, we’re particularly calling on younger Australians to enrol to vote, because the under 25 age group is enrolled at a lower level than the broader population.”
“Since the announcement of the election date, there have been around 200,000 enrolment transactions submitted – approximately 33,000 a day.”
“It takes less than five minutes to enrol or check your details on the AEC’s website – on your phone, tablet or desktop.”
