Election jobs on offer for regional Western Australia

Updated: 26 November 2024

The AEC is putting out a call across regional Western Australia for paid workers to help deliver Australia’s next federal election – due by May of 2025.

There has been strong interest in the AEC’s recruitment drive for the next election, but more people are needed across the state.

Western Australians will be going to the polls twice in the first half of next year – for the state and federal elections. While the federal election is run by the AEC, the state election is run by the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC). People have two opportunities to assist but need to be on the books for both organisations.

In particular, the AEC is encouraging people in the following communities to register their interest:

  • Carnarvon
  • Dampier/Karratha region
  • Denham
  • Derby
  • Exmouth
  • Fitzroy Crossing
  • Kununurra
  • Newman
  • Onslow
  • Pannawonica
  • Paraburdoo
  • Port/South Hedland
  • Roebourne
  • Tom Price
  • Wickham
  • Wyndham
  • York, Muchea, Bindoon, Gingin and Moora.

Regional election jobs come in a variety of types; most are on election day with pre-polling work in some areas.

The AEC is also reminding people who may have worked at the 2023 referendum or a previous federal election that their expression of interest will not carry over for the next federal election – they need to visit the AEC’s website and register for temporary employment.

You can register your interest online by visiting the AEC’s website.

Quotes attributable to Western Australia State Manager Anita Ratcliffe

  • “Running an election in Western Australia isn’t easy when our state is larger than some countries.”
  • “These jobs are absolutely vital to the AEC. Here in the west, we have a huge number of regional and isolated polling places, and we rely on the local residents who join us at election time to make federal elections possible.”
  • “Working at an election is an experience you’ll never forget, and it’s a really rare opportunity to help your community have its say.”
