Election jobs on offer for regional Victoria

Updated: 26 November 2024

The AEC is putting out a call across regional Victoria for paid workers to help deliver Australia’s next federal election – due by May of 2025.

There has been strong interest in the AEC’s recruitment drive for the next election, but more people are needed across the state.

In particular, the AEC is encouraging people in the following electorates to register their interest:

  • Mallee – including areas like Bridgewater, Charlton, Dimboola, Horsham, Kerang, Maryborough, Mildura, Stawell, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal
  • Wannon – including areas like Ararat, Beaufort, Cobden, Colac, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Lorne, Timboon and Winchelsea
  • Gippsland – including areas like Mallacoota, Lakes Entrance, Orbost, Buchan, Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Maffra, Heyfield, Sale, 90 Mile Beach, Yarram, Rosedale, Gormandale, Traralgon, Churchill, Morwell, Yallourn and the high country
  • Nicholls – including areas like Pyalong, Rushworth, Rochester, Echuca, Gunbower, Avenel, Merrigum, Stanhope, Undera, Shepparton, Cobram, Seymour and Yarrawonga.

Election jobs come in a variety of types, from working on election day through to engagement for up to 7 weeks of a full election campaign period.

The AEC is also reminding people who may have worked at the 2023 referendum or a previous federal election that their expression of interest will not carry over for the next federal election – they need to visit the AEC’s website and register for temporary employment.

You can register your interest online by visiting the AEC’s website.

Quotes attributable to Victoria State Manager Nye Coffey

  • “We’ve naturally already seen a lot of interest in and around Melbourne, but Victoria is much more than that and finding staff for regional polling places is absolutely critical.”
  • “Working at an election is an experience you’ll never forget, and it’s a really rare opportunity to help your community have its say.”
