Dunkley by-election: Plan how you will cast your vote

Updated: 16 February 2024

The Australian Electoral Commission is encouraging all voters in the federal electoral division of Dunkley to plan how they will cast their vote in the 2 March 2024 Dunkley by-election.

AEC State Manager for Victoria Natasha Scandrett has emphasised the importance of planning your vote ahead of early voting opening next week.

“When it comes to choosing your method of voting, carefully consider your personal circumstances and seek information from the AEC website to help you plan your vote” Ms Scandrett said.

“We will have 3 early voting centres open for this by-election from Monday 19 February. Opening times and hours are available on the AEC website. On by-election day there will be 32 polling places available from 8am to 6pm on Saturday 2 March.”

All voting locations and opening times are now available on the AEC website - https://www.aec.gov.au/dunkley/

Postal voting

While applications for postal votes can be lodged with the AEC until 6pm AEDT on Wednesday 28 February, Ms Scandrett emphasised it was crucial to apply early.

“If you need a postal vote, please don’t leave it to the last minute,” Ms Scandrett said.

“For some locations, an application left until the last minute creates the risk that the AEC simply can’t get ballot papers to you, despite our best efforts.”

Voting accessibility

For Dunkley voters who are blind or have low vision, the AEC is again operating its telephone voting service and working with relevant bodies to communicate about that service.

“We will also be visiting a range of residential care facilities with mobile polling teams to ensure everyone has access to a voting service,” Ms Scandrett.
