Aston by-election: Plan how you will cast your vote

Updated: 14 March 2023

The Australian Electoral Commission is encouraging all voters in the federal electoral division of Aston to plan how they will cast their vote in the 1 April Aston by-election.

AEC State Manager for Victoria Nye Coffey has emphasised the importance of planning your vote ahead of early voting opening next week.

“When it comes to choosing your method of voting, carefully consider your personal circumstances and seek information from the AEC website as early as possible,” Mr Coffey said.

“We will have three early voting centres open for this by-election and more than 30 polling places available from 8am to 6pm on Saturday 1 April.”

“All voting locations and opening times are now available here.

Postal voting

While applications for postal votes can be lodged with the AEC until 6pm AEST on Wednesday 29 March, Mr Coffey emphasised it was crucial to apply early.

“If you need a postal vote, please don’t leave it to the last minute,” Mr Coffey said.

“For some locations, an application left until the last minute creates the risk that the AEC simply can’t get ballot papers to you, despite our best efforts.”

Voting accessibility

For Aston voters who are blind or low vision, the AEC is again operating its telephone voting service and working with relevant bodies to communicate about that service.

“We will also be visiting identified residential care facilities with mobile polling teams to ensure everyone has access to a voting service,” Mr Coffey said.
