The deadline for candidate nominations for the 2023 Aston by-election is fast approaching, with nominations closing at midday on Thursday 9 March.
AEC State Manager for Victoria Nye Coffey said that late nominations cannot be accepted so it is crucial for any intending candidate to make sure they are well organised.
“People wishing to nominate as a candidate in the Aston by-election are running out of time,” Mr Coffey said.
“Clear guidance is available for both endorsed and unendorsed intending candidates to enable them to complete the required paperwork.”
Nomination forms were made available on the AEC website upon announcement of the by-election by the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Monday 20 February.
Candidates for the 2023 Aston federal by-election will be officially declared at midday on Friday 10 March 2023, the day after nominations close.
Following the declaration of candidates, the Divisional Returning Officer for Aston will conduct a random draw for positions on the ballot paper.
The ballot draw is a public event with candidates, media representatives and members of the public able to attend should they wish to.
The list of candidates, in ballot paper order, will be published on the AEC website later in the day. The AEC will also tweet an image of the candidate list from the event for people unable to attend.
