LUANA: My name's Luana Sanders, I'm a single Mum but more importantly I’m a direct descendant of the Gooreng Gooreng Munanjhalli and Gangalu nations here from all over Queensland.

I've worked in a couple of elections here in the Brisbane city area.

The roles have been like Polling Officer and Declarations Officer.

Really fun roles, I totally enjoy it.

I was basically looking for extra work and some extra money.

Being a single parent of three children, you want to be able to have a little bit extra for a rainy day.

So you get to sit down in a meeting room with like-minded people.

You’re taken through the whole procedure of what happens in a polling place and exactly what your role is and what you need to do.

I think it’s really important that we show our faces inside the polling booth so people can actually recognise that Aboriginal people are a first nations people here and we can work anywhere that we put our mind to.
