2026 Tasmanian local government elections

Looking for information on the 2026 Tasmanian local government elections? The AEC manages the electoral roll and can help you enrol or update your details. Updates to your enrolment are required before the 2026 Tasmanian local government elections close of rolls cut off at 6pm AEST.

Eligibility basics

  • you are an Australian citizen
  • aged 18 years and over, and
  • have lived at your address for at least one month.

It is compulsory by law for all eligible Australian citizens to enrol and vote.
If you are 16 or 17 you can enrol now so when you turn 18 you'll be able to vote.

You will need to provide one of the following

  • Australian driver license number
  • Australian passport number
  • Medicare card details
  • Australian citizenship number
  • Someone who is currently enrolled confirm your identity.

18+ or Proof of Age cards are not accepted.

Overseas or going overseas

If you are going overseas for a short period of time you will need to enrol first. If you are already enrolled and travelling or intend to travel overseas, see information about Australians overseas.

State, territory and local government elections

Completing this enrolment form enables you to participate in federal elections, by-elections and referendums, and any relevant state, territory, or local government elections. The AEC only runs federal events.
