Election 2010: Result confirms leading candidates in division of Denison

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) announced today the result of the provisional distribution of preferences conducted in the division of Denison.

Australian Electoral Officer for Tasmania, Sandra Riordan said the provisional distribution of preferences conducted today confirmed Jonathan Jackson and Andrew Wilkie as the two leading candidates in the division of Denison.

"The provisional scrutiny today has provided certainty around the two candidate preferred result," Ms Riordan said.

The next step will be to finalise counting including postal votes that may be received by the cut-off date of Friday 3 September. A full and final distribution of preferences will follow as soon as possible.

Where two or more candidates finish in a very close race for second position on first preferences a provisional distribution of preferences of the other candidates like that conducted in the Division of Denison today enables the AEC to confirm the two leading candidates.
