Parties that received the required four per cent of the formal first-preference vote cast at the Cook by-election have each received an initial payment of $12,039.
The payments, amounting to $60,195 in total, have been made to the Liberal Party of Australia, The Greens NSW, Animal Justice Party, Libertarian Party and to independent candidate Roger Woodward.
The initial payment was not dependent on a demonstration of electoral expenditure – it is an automatic payment. It was required to be made as soon as practicable after the 20th day following election day.
Further election funding payments are subject to submission of a claim by the candidate or political party showing demonstrated electoral expenditure. The total amount payable is capped at the amount of actual electoral expenditure incurred by the candidate or political party. All claims are closely examined by the AEC before final payments are made and may be subject to a formal compliance review.
Election funding claims for further payments can be submitted to the AEC during the period from 3 May 2024 to 14 October 2024. The AEC will assess these claims and determinations will be published on the Transparency Register.
