The Speaker of the House of Representatives has announced that a by-election for the federal electoral division of Fadden (QLD) will be held on 15 July 2023.
Fadden is an outer metropolitan seat. It consists of part of the Gold Coast City Council, covering an area of approximately 387 sq km in the northern parts of the Gold Coast.
The AEC’s Queensland State Manager, Stephanie Attard said the by-election follows the recent retirement of the former member for Fadden who was elected at the 2022 federal election.
“A by-election occurs where there is a vacancy in the House of Representatives and it means that the local community for Fadden will be able to continue to have federal representation,” Ms Attard said.
“If you live in the division of Fadden, have recently moved to the area or are a local resident who has turned 18, then you should check your enrolment details at aec.gov.au now.”
“Enrolment closes for the by-election at 8pm on Monday 19 June.”
The AEC will be employing approximately 700 people to work at the by-election.
Most positions are for a single day but some stretch over a few weeks. The AEC will primarily be looking for people to be polling officials – to mark people off the electoral roll, be queue controllers, guard ballot boxes, and issue and count votes.
