Victoria
Named after the Wannon River which was named by Sir Thomas Mitchell (1792–1855) in 1836.
It covers an area of approximately 29 693 sq km from the southern coastline of Victoria, north to the Glenelg River and from the South Australian border to Lake Corangamite and the townships of Smythesdale and Port Campbell in the east, and is generally known as the 'Western Districts'.
The main towns include Ararat, Balmoral, Beaufort, Camperdown, Casterton, Dartmoor, Hamilton, Heywood, Koroit, Lismore, Macarthur, Mortlake, Penshurst, Port Campbell, Port Fairy, Portland, Skipton and Warrnambool.
Shipping, wool, sheep, beef and dairy cattle, cropping, forestry, aluminium smelting, textiles and clothing and tool manufacturing.
