I've received a letter from the AEC

Updated: 20 April 2011

Why have I received a letter from the AEC?

The AEC has sent you a letter as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that all eligible Australians are correctly enrolled to vote.

There are two reasons why you would have received a letter:

  1. it appears you have moved but not updated your enrolment details; or
  2. you may have received a routine letter checking that everyone at your address is correctly enrolled.

What do I need to do?

It's very important that you respond to the letter you've received.

If you're not correctly enrolled your name may be removed from the electoral roll and you may be unable to vote in upcoming elections.

You can enrol to vote by completing and submitting an enrolment form.

You can enrol online or pick up an enrolment form at any AEC office.

If you need to update your enrolment you can change your address online without needing to submit a paper form.

Remember, every time you move address, either next door or across the country, you need to update your enrolment.

I'm not sure if I am enrolled for the right address – where can I check?

If you're unsure if you are enrolled for your current address you can check your enrolment online.

I still have more questions

For any questions regarding the letter you have received or about enrolment in general you can call us on 13 23 26.
