Media Feed

The AEC media feed delivers uninterrupted, real-time results to media organisations or interested third parties during federal elections, by-elections and referendums.

How does it work?

The feed provides polling place and candidate data ahead of election night and then progressive results data as soon as it is available from election night onwards. This feed of raw data allows media organisations to display and analyse election results as part of their coverage of federal electoral events.

The AEC's election results media feed:

  • generates election results as a set of XML messages based on the Election Mark-up Language (EML) schema
  • uses a pull model and publishes the feed to a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site
  • allows users to poll the FTP location and download the feed as required
  • publishes to the FTP site every 90 seconds on election night and every 15 minutes in the post-election period.
