8. Performance Management
8.1 The AEC focuses on performance management as a key element in achieving individual and organisational outcomes.
9. Encouraging Career Development Through Mobility
9.1 The AEC seeks to provide employees with more opportunities for career development, particularly those employees in regional and remote areas, by facilitating reassignment of duties where employees from regional and remote areas are selected as the most suitable employees in a transfer situation.
10. Valuing Diversity
10.1 The AEC is committed to maintaining a workforce that reflects the diversity of the Australian community.
11. Employee Assistance Program
11.1 Employees and their families can access a confidential, professional counselling service provided by the AEC to help them resolve both personal and work related matters.
12. Learning & Development
12.1 Ongoing employees have access to learning and development opportunities. This clause should be read in conjunction with the AEC's Learning and Development Policy.
12.2 Ongoing employees may undertake an approved course of study. This clause should be read in conjunction with the AEC's Study Assistance Policy.
13. Membership of Professional Organisations
13.1 The AEC will reimburse costs for the membership of a professional organisation where that membership is essential to an employee's current job. Reimbursement of the membership of these professional organisations will be determined on a case by case basis by the relevant State/Territory Manager or Executive Member.
14. Probation
14.1 New employees, who are engaged in the AEC from outside the APS, will undergo a three month period of probation for the purpose of determining the employee's suitability for employment unless otherwise stated in their offer of employment or as agreed by the Electoral Commissioner.
15. Political Neutrality
15.1 Employees, as part of their employment with the AEC, are to maintain political neutrality and must not be publicly active in any political affairs.
16. Managing Underperformance
16.1 The AEC manages underperformance in fairness to all employees. This clause should be read in conjunction with the AEC's Managing Underperformance Policy.
