AEC Graduate program - Frequently Asked Questions

Contents

What disciplines is the AEC most interested in?

The AEC is looking for excellent results in areas such as Project Management, Statistics, Political Science or Business Analysis.

Are there positions in State Offices?

The AEC’s graduate positions are in National Office. However, there may be opportunities for you to participate in electoral events managed by State offices for a short period of time. This depends on when State and Territory elections come up and how it fits in with your graduate program.

To be eligible for the graduate program, graduates must be willing to relocate to Canberra.

What are the academic requirements? Do I have to be an HD average student?

Applicants must, as a minimum, have completed or be due to complete their undergraduate qualification by the end of the 2008 academic year. Applicants do not require a HD average. While academic ability is important, selection is based on a range of factors throughout the whole recruitment process (including application, responses to selection criteria, and interview).

What skills are you looking for?

We are looking for analytical and research skills, teamwork, strong oral and written communication skills, flexibility, initiative, and leadership potential.

Is there an age limit for people who apply?

No. All graduates are selected on their capabilities and demonstrated competence against the selection criteria. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, ethnicity, or disability, and we select candidates based on merit.

How many positions are there?

As a small agency, the AEC will recruit between three and five graduates for 2009.
