WA Civics and Citizenship Competition

Competition details

In 2012 and 2013 the Australian Electoral Commission, in conjunction with the Western Australian Electoral Commission, conducted a writing competition for WA secondary school students to help highlight Australia's electoral system.

Competition winners

Judging

Each year entries were assessed by a judging panel comprising of:

  • AEC officer – member of WA Executive Group
  • WA Electoral Commission member
  • Member of WA Education Reference Group

The following elements were considered by the judging panel:

  • Accuracy of content and the use of valid examples in the development of the essay.
  • Comprehensive nature of the response, including originality of ideas.
  • Evidence of substantial reading and research.
  • References and bibliography in accordance with the guidelines contained at Attachment A.
  • Views communicated fluently and incorporate an introduction, clear paragraphs and a conclusion.

Prizes

All students who submitted entries to their school received a participation certificate and winning entrants received a new tablet computer.
