Since 1996, the Senate has required Australian Government departments to publish, by tabling in the Senate, lists of files created in each six-month period. On 3 December 1998, the Senate amended that order to require departments to publish the lists of files created in the last year on their Internet sites.

Access to information contained in these files is governed by the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). Applications for access under this Act can be made in writing to:
