New South Wales’ Federal Electoral Redistribution Proposal

The Chairman of the augmented Electoral Commission, The Hon James Burchett QC today announced the next stage in the public consultation for the proposed redistribution of New South Wales’ Federal Electoral Boundaries.

The Redistribution Committee for New South Wales published its proposed redistribution on 30 June 2006. The period for lodging objections to the proposal ended on 28 July 2006, and the period for lodging comments on these objections ended on 11 August 2006.

These comments on the previously submitted objections will be available for public inspection from Monday 14 August on the AEC website and at the AEC Sydney office.

As part of its consideration of the objections and comments on objections received, the augmented Electoral Commission will hold a public inquiry to consider any submissions that people or organisations may wish to make concerning the objections made.

The augmented Electoral Commission is the body which will make the final determination of the boundaries and names of the 49 electoral divisions for New South Wales.

The dates, times and locations for the public inquiry are:

Sydney 24 August 2006 Commencing at 9am Australian Industrial Registry, Level 10, 80 William Street, Sydney
Narrabri 25 August 2006 Commencing at 9am

Main Auditorium, The Crossing Theatre, 117 Tibbereena Street, Narrabri
