Date set for Werriwa By-Election

The key dates for the Werriwa by-election have been officially announced, with electors in the Division of Werriwa to vote on election day, Saturday 19 March 2005.

The announcement by the Speaker of the House of Representatives appointed the following key dates for the by-election:

  • Issue of writ: Monday 14 February 2005
  • Close of rolls: 8pm,Monday 21 February 2005
  • Close of nominations: 12noon, Thursday 24 February 2005
  • Declaration of nominations: 12noon, Friday 25 February 2005
  • Election day: 8am to 6pm, Saturday 19 March 2005

The Divisional Returning Officer for Werriwa, Mr Gary Franklin said today the announcement acts as a reminder for Australians living in the division to enrol for the first time or to update their details on the electoral roll.

“If you’re an Australian citizen, aged 18 years or older and living in the Division of Werriwa you are eligible to enrol and vote in the by-election, in fact it is compulsory that you do.”

People already enrolled who have recently moved to or from the Division of Werriwa should update their details on the electoral roll by completing an enrolment form.

“It is important the AEC receives completed enrolment forms by 8pm, Monday 21 February to ensure eligible electors are able to have their say on election day,” Mr Franklin said.

Enrolment forms are available on the AEC website, from post offices, electoral offices or by calling 13 23 26.

Mr Franklin said if anyone is unsure about whether they are enrolled correctly they can confirm their enrolment by entering a few personal details on the AEC website or call the AEC on 13 23 26.
