Step 6A. Inquiry into objections –TAS federal redistribution

Inquiries were held in Launceston on Monday 10 July and in Hobart on Tuesday 11 July 2017 into objections to the proposed redistribution of electoral divisions in Tasmania, as outlined in a report published by the Redistribution Committee for Tasmania on 5 May 2017.

At the inquiries, individuals or organisations were able to address the augmented Electoral Commission for Tasmania on any matter raised in an objection to the proposed redistribution of Tasmania or in a comment on these objections.
Matters raised in objections and comments on objections include the:

  • electoral division in which the following be located:
    • the City of Hobart, City of Clarence, City of Glenorchy, Municipality of Dorset, Municipality of Flinders, Municipality of Latrobe, Municipality of Huon Valley, Municipality of Kingborough, Municipality of Meander Valley, and Municipality of West Tamar
    • the areas of Hadspen/Carrick, Westbury, Prospect Vale/Blackstone, Richmond, town of Railton and the surrounding parts of the Municipality of Kentish, Kingston Beach and Old Beach
  • whether the boundaries of the Division of Bass should be altered
  • name of the proposed Division of Denison
  • name of the proposed Division of Franklin.

Topics raised in objections and comments on objections that were not discussed at the inquiry were considered by the augmented Electoral Commission for Tasmania as part of its deliberations.
