On 20 January 2016, Tim Courtney, A/g First Assistant Commissioner, as a delegate of the Electoral Commission for the purposes of s.134(3) of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918, approved the application from the Australian Equality Party to change the party's name in the Register of Political Parties and for the Register to be amended accordingly:
New name of party: Australian Equality Party (Marriage)
New abbreviation: Marriage Equality
The AEC acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters, culture and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
