Updated: 14 February 2017

Steps in the redistribution

An inquiry was held on Tuesday 22 November 2016 into objections to the proposed redistribution of electoral divisions in the Northern Territory, as outlined in a report published by the Redistribution Committee for the Northern Territory on 9 September 2016.

At the inquiry, individuals or organisations were able to address the augmented Electoral Commission for the Northern Territory on any matter raised in an objection to the proposed redistribution of the Northern Territory or in a comment on these objections.

Matters raised in objections and comments on objections include the:

  • electoral division in which Wagait Shire is to be located
  • the use of suburb and statistical area boundaries
  • electoral division in which Litchfield Municipality is to be located
  • electoral division in which the suburbs of Farrar, Johnston, Mitchell, Zuccoli and Yarrawonga are to be located
  • alignment of federal electoral division boundaries with territory electoral division boundaries
  • origin of enrolment projections

Topics raised in objections and comments on objections that were not discussed at the inquiry were considered by the augmented Electoral Commission for the Northern Territory as part of its deliberations.

Two submissions were made at the inquiry held by the augmented Electoral Commission in Darwin on Tuesday 22 November 2016.
