Name Derivation:

Named after the city of Brisbane which was named after Sir Thomas Macdougall Brisbane (1773–1860), Governor of New South Wales (1820–1825).

Area and Location Description:

It covers an area of approximately 72 sq km from Stafford in the north to the Brisbane River in the east to Dutton Park in the south and to Keperra in the west.

The main suburbs include Alderley, Ashgrove, Auchenflower, Bardon, Bowen Hills, Brisbane City, Dutton Park, East Brisbane, Enoggera, Fortitude Valley, Grange, Highgate Hill, Kangaroo Point, Kelvin Grove, Keperra (part), Milton, Mitchelton (part), New Farm, Newmarket, Newstead, Paddington, Red Hill, South Brisbane, Spring Hill, Stafford (part), Toowong (part), West End, Wilston, Windsor and Woolloongabba.

Products/Industries of the area:

The area is mostly residential but contains some light industry. It includes the Queensland Parliament House and Brisbane City Council Chambers. The Enoggera Military Camp and many Commonwealth Government, State Government and business administrative offices are found in the area.
