Name Derivation:

Named after Lake Corangamite. The name of the lake originated from the Aboriginal word for 'bitter', describing the salt content of the lake.

Area and Location Description:

It covers an area of approximately 7570 sq km from Colac in the west to St Leonards in the east and from Meredith in the north to Cape Otway in the south.

Some of the suburbs of Geelong (Belmont, Grovedale and Highton) and the towns of Anglesea, Apollo Bay, Barwon Heads, Inverleigh, Lorne, Ocean Grove, Portarlington and Torquay are located in this division.

Products/Industries of the area:

Beef and dairy cattle, cereals, fishing, forestry, lambs, timber milling, tourism, wool, dairy products, meat processing, surfing equipment manufacture and general retailing.
