Named after Vida Goldstein (1869–1949), the first woman candidate at a national parliamentary election in the British Empire.

Area and Location Description:

It covers an area of approximately 48 sq km from Brighton in the north to Beaumaris in the south and is bordered by Port Phillip Bay to the west.

The main suburbs include Beaumaris, Bentleigh, Brighton East, Black Rock, Carnegie, Caulfield South, Cheltenham, Glenhuntly, Hampton, Hampton East, Highett, Ormond and Sandringham.

Mainly residential but also contains some light industrial and commercial activities.
