Nominations deadline for candidates in the Gippsland by-election
“Anyone interested in running as a candidate in the Gippsland by-election, has until 12 noon on Thursday, 5 June, to lodge their nomination”, the Divisional Returning Officer for Gippsland, Mr David Wakely said today.
“All nominations for the House of Representatives Gippsland by-election must be made to the Divisional Returning Officer for Gippsland, at the AEC’s office located at 79-91 Raymond St, Sale”, Mr Wakely said.
“For a nomination to be valid, both the correctly completed nomination form and the deposit of $500 must be received at office of the Divisional Returning Officer for Gippsland before the deadline. Late nominations cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” Mr Wakely said.
Mr Wakely encouraged interested candidates to lodge their nomination as early as possible.
“Nominating on the last day may cause problems, particularly if there are issues in the nomination form which require time to resolve.”
“Important information for candidates, including the Candidate’s Handbook is available on the AEC website or by ringing
13 23 26,” Mr Wakely said.
To be eligible to nominate for the House of Representatives, a person must be an Australian citizen aged 18 years or older and an elector entitled to vote, or a person qualified to become such an elector.
Nomination forms are available on the AEC website at www.aec.gov.au, at any AEC office or by phoning 13 23 26.
