The candidates running in the 2008 Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) election to be held on Saturday 17 May 2008 were officially announced today by the election Returning Officer, Mr Tony Anderson.

The TSRA election is being held in three wards, each of which is electing one member to the TSRA, and the candidates are as follows:

Port Kennedy ward:
Phillip John MILLS
Shayne AHBOO

Horn/Prince of Wales Islands ward:
Isaac SAVAGE
Napcia BIN TAHAL

TRAWQ ward:
Allan KETCHELL
Frank Sam COOK
Harry James SERIAT
Cyril T STEPHEN
Aven S NOAH
John Stephen ABEDNEGO
Ella Avion BOWIE
Leo B AKEE

"All Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people living within these wards who are 18 years of age and over, can vote in the TSRA election if they are correctly enrolled by 5pm on Friday 2 May 2008" Mr Anderson said.

"If you need to enrol for the first time, or if you recently moved to any of these wards and haven’t updated your enrolment address, you will need to complete a new enrolment form and return it to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) by 5pm on Friday 2 May,” he said. “Don’t miss out – enrol to vote today."

Enrolment forms are available from any Australia Post Office, Council Office or from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).
