Aston Electors Reminded to Vote this Saturday
13 July 2001
The Australian Electoral Commission reminds all electors in Division of Aston that this Saturday is polling day for the by-election.
The Divisional Returning Officer for Aston, Mr Dennis Ptak, said that the 32 polling places in the Division of Aston would open at 8.00am and close at 6.00pm. He added that voting would not be available at Melbourne Town Hall for this by-election.
Mr Ptak said that it was compulsory for all electors on the Aston electoral roll to vote in the by-election on Saturday unless they had voted by post or pre-poll in the weeks leading up to polling day. "Voting is also compulsory for those young people who are 'provisionally enrolled electors' who turn 18 on or before polling day" he said.
Mr Ptak wants to remind voters that for House of Representative elections, voters must number everybox on the ballot paper.
The location of polling places can be found in the elector leaflet which was posted to every elector enrolled for the Division of Aston as at close of rolls, or on the AEC website, www.aec.gov.au/aston or by telephoning 13 23 26.
Election results will be available on the website on polling night.
